Is fiber internet 100% of the speed all the time?

100 Mbps, 300 Mbps, and Gigabit are maximum capacities. Speeds may be slower based on users accessing the line at the same time or using WiFi access. Gigabit speeds are “best-effort” and not guaranteed.

Can i use my own equipment?

You must use the Optical Network Terminal (ONT) as the modem. The standard ONT functions as a modem that translates the light signals to standard data formats. You may use a third-party wireless router if you prefer.

Awesome Tip: If you choose our Managed Wi-Fi service, you are provided with an ONT that is a modem/Wi-Fi router combination.

What equipment will be required?

You are not required to provide any equipment for internet service, and there is no fee for the ONT device. However, our Managed Wi-Fi and Ultimate Wi-Fi service include an Optical Network Terminal (ONT) that also has Wi-Fi routing capability.

  • Managed Wi-Fi: $7 per month
  • Ultimate Wi-Fi: $11 per month
How can your guest be a threat?

Let’s say that you have 2 laptops, 4 smartphones, and a tablet in your home, any of which could be connected to your Wi-Fi network at any given time. Let’s say you also have several smart home devices connected to Wi-Fi and a portable USB hard drive plugged into your Wi-Fi router to share files with other family members. Whenever a guest logs into your primary Wi-Fi network, they will also have access to everyone of these devices.

While it’s unlikely any of your friends would intentionally sabotage your network, there’s a chance that the device they are using to connect to your network is infected with some malware. If so, there’s a possibility that this malware could be spread to other devices connected to your network.

Why You Need a Guest Wi-Fi Network?

Fortunately, there’s a simple way to address this particular threat. Most Wi-Fi routers give you the ability to create what’s called a “guest WiFi” network. Unlike your regular Wi-Fi network that you and your family members use, the guest Wi-Fi network restricts what your guests can do on your network. Specifically, it gives visitors access to your Internet connection and nothing else. They can’t see any of your devices on the network, and they don’t have the ability to access them. Most importantly, they can’t accidentally introduce malware or compromise your devices or data in any other way.

How Does a Guest Wi-Fi Network Work?

Here’s how a guest WiFi network works. Anyone looking to connect to your WiFi will see your primary WiFi network name as well as your guest network name. For example, if your primary network is called “MyWiFi,” your guest network might be called “MyWiFi-guest”. Each of these networks has a separate strong password one you share with guests and the other that you only share with family members. When a guest asks you for your WiFi password, you simply give them the guest WiFi password and ask them to connect to “MyWiFi-guest”. Once they’re connected, they can use the Internet, and you don’t have to worry about any security threats.

How To Set Up a Guest Wi-Fi Network With Wave Managed Wi-Fi or Ultimate Wi-Fi

CalixD1 RouterTo set up your guest WiFi network, you need to access the web interface for your WiFi router. You log into the network and follow the instructions provided by your router manufacturer to create and set up the guest WiFi network. If you have a GigaSpire provided by WAVE, you need to log in to the GigaSpire web interface or use the WAVE Connect App to set up your guest WiFi network.

This involves 4 steps

  • Turn on the guest WiFi network for the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands.
  • Provide a name for the guest WiFi network (also known as the SSID).
  • Set a strong password that’s also easy to remember for your guests.
  • Share the guest network with your friends!

What Is a Modem?

Modems are boxes that connect your home to the Internet and World Wide Web. The main job is to translate the incoming information to a digital signal Ethernet or Fiber devices can understand. Your devices and the Internet cannot actually communicate without a handoff between them. For DSL and Cable Internet, you will have a modem; Fiber systems will generally have an Optical Network Terminal (ONT).

Technically, an ONT isn’t a Modem as it doesn’t modulate/demodulate. When speaking of fiber-optic Internet, the result for your home network is essentially the same — read on.

What Is a Router?

RouterA router is a device that connects your wireless or wired devices to a modem or a fiber ONT. The internet connection in your home is shared between the access point and your personal devices. This sharing creates a local network where a router acts as a hub and protective firewall that allow control of network settings, security, and what devices can access the network.

It is not required that the modem and router be separate devices. Many providers offer wireless gateways or hybrids that are both modems and routers. Most routers today come with wireless capability (Wi-Fi).

Your provider will assign an Internet Protocol (IP) address to the router, not the modem.

Why Do You Need a Router?

The router shares a single internet connection to the devices in your home. Your Internet provider generally applies the IP address to the first device connected to the modem/ONT — which is the router. The IP address is essentially your Internet street address.

This means the router is the only device that can send and receive data outside the home. The router then assigns a unique internal address to each Internet-capable device you connect.

Can I Use a Router without A Modem Or ONT?

The short answer is no. Like those sold in box stores, a standalone router requires a modem or ONT as it does not read Internet signals on its own. Cable and DSL internet send data across copper wires. Fiber internet transmits signals using light passed through glass fibers. All three connections require a device to translate the signals into data that the router can use and deliver to your devices.

The actual process of routing signals is where a router gets its name. The good news is that if you buy a router, almost all modems output the translated Internet signal through an Ethernet cable. So you can easily add a router to your network to enable routing via more Ethernet cables or Wi-Fi.

If you have cable or DSL internet, you will have a modem to translate an electrical signal. If you have fiber Internet, you will have an ONT to translate the light signal to digital.

If you select WAVE Rural Connect as your service provider, you have the option to add Managed Wireless service, which comes with an advanced hybrid ONT/router.

What is an internet data Cap or limit?

Some internet providers place a limit on the amount of data that each user can consume in a given month. This limit is often called a Data Cap.

The Internet service provider will monitor the internet data used each month and apply fees, slow down service, or shut off access.

The type of activities you enjoy online will determine how often you hit these barriers. Downloading video games or binge-streaming TV shows uses significantly more data than sending an email. Even activities such as browsing can add up if you have a large family that is online frequently.

What do you need to know about data caps?

Data caps can apply to mobile (cellular) and home Internet service plans. Using a mobile service as your home Internet provider is the most likely scenario where you will go over your allocated data limit — as you also use your mobile phone away from the home.

No matter the method of service delivery, you likely have a cap. Some providers charge a fee for data use over your monthly cap; other plans have a hard cap that shuts down your Internet access till you add more data. Fees for going over a capped plan can be $15 to $25 for additional data packs.

48% of Americans surveyed do not know their internet plan data cap.

Some unlimited data plans slow down your Internet speeds after a data limit has been hit. For example, you may have an unlimited plan with a monthly cap of 1.5 Terabytes with a speed of 100 Mbps.

When you hit the monthly limit of 1.5TB, your 50 Mbps will slow to 5 Mbps until next month. Even if your provider says you have “Unlimited” data, make sure you read the fine print.

HSI Data cap survey

How large of a data plan do you need?

When determining how much data you need, start by considering how much time you spend online per day. Turning on your laptop to check your email once daily doesn’t require fast speeds and uses little data. But you will need a much larger plan if you have 5 people in a household and you all have cell phones, tablets, laptops, gaming systems, and don’t forget the smart toasters or smart thermostats.

Consider your behaviors online. A large family that spends more time streaming, checking social media, and playing video games, may want an unlimited plan or a plan with a high data cap. Your household is likely to use more data at different times of the year: such as holidays or during summer vacation.

37% hit their data cap during the pandemic.
68% of those paid overage fees.

Understanding data caps can seem complicated when calculating how much time you spend online and performing an inventory of all the devices, just to pick a plan.

Consider choosing one of the Internet plans at WAVE Rural Connect. Our data is truly unlimited. We do not have any data caps, nor do we slow down your speeds when data use is high.

What is wireless interference?

Wireless interference is just what it sounds like: when something interferes with your wireless signal. Wireless interference usually includes such symptoms as irregular connectivity, slow network connection, slow data transfer, and poor signal strength.

How to troubleshoot Wi-Fi issues regarding physical obstacles?

Every building has walls, furniture, and nick-nack obstacles in the way of a wireless signal. Solve a poor Wi-Fi signal by:

  1. Moving the router or wireless receiving device to a different spot. A couple of feet can make a significant difference.
  2. Add a Wi-Fi extender to your network.
  3. Don’t place objects around the router or wireless device. Like books, vases, or metal picture frames.
What is frequency interference?

Some wireless devices in your office, though not Wi-Fi related, may be operating on the same frequencies as your network. Bluetooth devices, baby monitors, and microwaves can easily interfere with a wireless signal.

What is a sun outage?

When the sun is in a direct line with a satellite, solar radiation emitted by the sun interferes with satellite signals and causes a brief outage in reception. It is when the sun passes directly behind satellites transmitting video signals that these brief outages occur.

How often do sun outages occur, and how long they last?

Sun outages occur every year, in Fall and Spring, and last approximately about a week each time. Fall outages for Wave customers are expected between October 5th and 14th, 2020. And could affect satellite signal for 10 minutes, or so, each day in this period.

Optional Features

Call Recording

View, manage, and customize a call recording set just for your business. See all your recordings, statistics about recorded calls, run reports, and set up rules or manage other users.

Direct Inward Dialing (DID) PRI

When used in conjunction with Wave Rural Connect PBX services, this feature allocates a range of telephone numbers that can be assigned to individual users without requiring a separate physical phone line.

Hosted Private Branch Exchange (PBX)

This is an Internet-based (VoIP) phone solution versus a typical phone interchange. PBX includes all the same telephony features listed under Standard Features on this page.

Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) Trunking

SIP Trunking eliminates the physical connection to a phone interchange. There are no hardware, wiring, or circuit boxes to maintain for connection to Wave Rural Connect. Calls happen as Voice over the Internet Protocol (VoIP).

Standard Features

Unlimited Local & Long-Distance in The U.S.

Enjoy unlimited calling in the United States. (Including Alaska and Hawaii.) Please contact Wave Rural Connect at (833) 4WAVERC if you want to activate International Calling.

Anonymous Call Rejection

This feature allows you to reject incoming callers who have blocked their telephone number from Caller ID (usually by dialing *67 or 67# to conceal their identity). This feature prevents their call from reaching you!

The anonymous call will route to a recorded denial announcement. You can turn this feature off by dialing *87, and back on again by dialing *77.

Residential telephone service is installed with this feature turned ON. Some cellular phones that do not send Caller ID may be blocked from calling your number while this feature is turned on.

This feature will not block Unavailable numbers.

Call Forwarding

This allows you to transfer all incoming calls to another phone number.

By dialing *72 + number (Some places use 72#). You may change the ‘forward to’ number using the line at any time.

Note: You must allow the number you are calling to answer before hanging up. If you reach a busy signal, or there is no answer, you must hang up and redial *72 + number a second time. 3 short tones will then confirm that Call Forwarding is in effect. Each time a call is forwarded, your phone will ring with one short ring. This is to remind you that your calls are being forwarded. To turn this feature off, dial *73 (Some places use 73#).

Note: If you need to dial a “1” when calling a number, you will need to dial it when forwarding to that number as well. If you choose to forward to a long-distance number, Wave Rural Connect’s low long-distance rates will apply to forwarded calls.

Call Forwarding Busy

Automatically forwards incoming calls to another number when your line is in use. This feature requires Wave Rural Connect to program a number into the central office switch where your calls are to be forwarded. You cannot change the ‘forward to’ number yourself. Wave Rural Connect must order a change in the central office switch for this feature.

Call Forward Do Not Answer

Automatically forwards incoming calls to another number when there is no answer after a pre-designated number of rings.

Call Waiting

During a call, you may hear a beep, indicating that you have a second call.

Press your switch hook briefly, or your “Flash” button, to answer a second call.

Note: If Call Waiting is used on a line equipped with a computer modem, the Call Waiting tone will probably disconnect your modem. If you use your line to dial telephone numbers from a modem, program your modem to always dial *70 ahead of each call. *70 will cancel this service for only one call at a time.

Caller ID Name & Number Delivery

Allows you to see the telephone number and name of the calling party. The calling ID will display the listed name of the caller’s telephone number. Caller ID may show unpublished and unlisted numbers if they are calling from an area that passes this information along with the call. People using Caller ID Blocking will show up as anonymous and can be blocked by the Anonymous Caller Rejection feature.

Caller ID Call Waiting

Allows you to know the number and name of a new call while you have a call in progress.

Caller ID and Call Waiting will display the listed name of the caller’s telephone number. You may respond to Call Waiting Caller ID during a call in any of the following ways:

  • Terminate the first call by hanging up, and answer the second call when your phone rings again
  • Answer the second call by quickly tapping your switch hook or pressing your “Flash” button, if you have one
  • Ignore the beep. The call will forward to the number you provided for Call Forward Busy if you are using this included feature.

Lines in Hunting

Available for business or residential customers who need to receive more than 2 calls simultaneously, on multiple telephone lines, without the Call Waiting feature active.

Call Waiting is not installed on lines in Hunting. Any number of telephone lines can be installed with this feature. Only the first number needs to be given out. Additional calls will automatically ring on any number of additional lines in the Hunting Group.

Priority Call

Allows you to identify specific incoming telephone numbers with a distinctive ring. Dial *61 and follow prompts to add a number to this service, or *81, and follow prompts to cancel numbers associated with this service.

Selective Call Rejection

Block up to 10 numbers in your map area. Dial *60 and follow prompts to block numbers. Dial *80 to cancel this service.

Selective Call Forwarding

Allows you to specify up to 10 specific numbers to automatically forward to any telephone number. Dial *63 and follow prompts to activate, and *83 to deactivate. Calls from these numbers will only forward to the number you specify.

Per Call Optional Caller ID Blocking

Use this service to block your number from being sent when you make a single call. Having an unlisted number will NOT keep your Caller ID information from showing up on someone’s Caller ID. Calls to people who have Anonymous Call Rejection will not go through when using this feature. Press *67, wait for a dial tone, and then make your call. This feature is a per-call feature and will need to be dialed before each call. Be sure to include this on your Speed Dial numbers if you want to remain Anonymous in your calling.

Speed Dialing

Allows you to place calls by dialing one digit plus the # button. Dial *74, wait for the tone, then any digit that you wish to assign to the Speed Number, from 2 to 9, then immediately dial the number you want to set up for speed dialing. If you need to dial a “1” or an Area Code when calling the number you are setting up, be sure to include the “1” or Area Code when setting up Speed Dialing. If you program a speed number to a number outside of the service area, you will be charged the applicable low Wave Rural Connect rate for each call.

Personalized Ringing Numbers

Each phone can have a distinct ring so that you can know when an outside call is dialing a specific number. This feature only works if you have multiple phone numbers assigned to your home service.

3-Way Calling

Allows you to add a third party to an existing telephone conversation without hanging up. Distance restrictions do not apply to incoming or outgoing calls. Quickly press your switch hook or press “Flash” on your phone, then dial a second call. Notify the party that you’ve called. When you are ready, quickly press your switch hook or press “Flash” on your phone again to create a 3-Way Conference Call.

Remote Call Forwarding

Remote Call Forwarding allows you to activate, deactivate, or change the ‘forward to’ number from a location other than your telephone. You may use this feature from a cellular or landline phone. You must use a touch-tone phone. You will have a 4-digit Personal Identification assigned to your line to activate this service.

Reminder Call Service – Wake-up Calls

A Reminder Call will automatically call your number at the time you specify. Whether a call to remind you to get out of bed, or not to miss that dentist appointment, this feature is a handy way to keep you on track.

Warmline/Hotline

This service sets your phone/number to automatically call a predefined number when the receiver is picked up.

Warmline waits 1 to 16 seconds before dialing. Hotline immediately dials. Hotlines can be used as emergency or information phones, where Warmlines can be used as a simple way to be notified if a handset has been left on, without dialing, or a corded handset has been left off the hook.

Optional Features

Additional mainline pilot

Add another line that rings to your main phone.

What is Wave Rural Connect?

Wave Rural Connect, LLC. is the telecommunications subsidiary of Arkansas Valley Electric Cooperative. We are bringing fiber services, including ultra-fast gigabit Internet and fiber VOIP telephone services, to the River Valley region.

Why are we doing this?

Today, many areas do not have access to broadband internet — and some have no access at all. Like Arkansas Valley Electric Cooperative (AVECC) did with electricity in 1937, Wave Rural Connect will provide the power of high-speed internet to Western Arkansas and Eastern Oklahoma.

AVECC uses fiber-optic cable for communication and automation between their substations and system to increase the reliability and accuracy of the electric service to members.

Due to the expanded capacity of fiber-optic transmission, Wave Rural Connect can offer high-speed services over much of the same fiber AVECC uses for automation.

Is Wave Rural Connect part of Arkansas Valley Electric Cooperative?

Wave Rural Connect, LLC. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Arkansas Valley Electric Cooperative Corporation (AVECC). As a separate company, Wave Rural Connect is therefore managed separately from the cooperative. Wave Rural Connect was created to benefit our membership and the cooperative by providing proper broadband services to members and eventually will be expanded to customers outside AVECC membership.

This project will not impact electric rates. AVECC owns the fiber and will utilize the fiber for electric smart-grid management. Wave Rural Connect is a self-sufficient company and will cover all the costs of fiber through revenues received.

Will Wave come to our area?

Wave Rural Connect will announce openings on social media, email, and send a mailer package with details and pricing when fiber service is ready in your area.

You can also check availability on our signup page, where you can see service areas and the schedule phases. Even if our service is not yet available in your area, enter your information, and we will contact you when your area is ready for Wave Rural Connect services.

What is fiber?

Fiber refers to the use of fiber-optic cable to transport data. Fiber-optic cable is a flexible glass filament that transmits light as a method of data transport.

Wave Rural Connect uses cutting-edge Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) technology that brings fiber-optics and the data they transport into your home. GPON is the most efficient technology for delivering streaming video content and online applications with virtually limitless bandwidth.

GPON systems drive the bursts of light through fibers at much faster speeds than traditional copper lines. This technology literally moves at the speed of light. Some of our competitors utilize fiber in their systems that only go to the curb, and the final connection to the home is copper lines, resulting in much slower speeds.

Wave Rural Connect will bring Fiber To The Home (FTTH).

What does the Term ”Broadband” mean?

Broadband commonly refers to high-speed internet access that is always on, faster, and has a wider range of frequencies than traditional dial-up access. Broadband services delivered over fiber-optic networks provide voice, data, video, and other digital services at the fastest speeds available to both consumers and businesses.

Are there any data caps?

No. Use as much data as you want with no caps or throttling (intentional slowing of internet speed).

Can I use my own equipment?

You must use the Optical Network Terminal (ONT) as the modem. The standard ONT functions as a modem that translates the light signals to standard data formats. You may use a 3rd-party wireless router if you prefer.

Awesome Tip: If you choose our Managed WiFi service, you are provided with an ONT that is a modem/Wi-Fi router combination.

What is Managed Wi-Fi?

Managed Wi-Fi (Managed Wireless) provides remote troubleshooting, a Wi-Fi 6 router, multi-layer virus and malware protection, and network management via our WAVE Connect app.

For $7 per month, we will provide a combination modem/Wi-Fi router and then maintain updates and security.

Without Managed Wireless, you will be provided with an ONT that functions as a modem-only, and you must supply your Wi-Fi router and maintain its settings and firmware updates on your own.

Support calls not resulting from a failure of our equipment or services could require a $50 service fee.

WAVE Rural Connect also offers Ultimate Wi-Fi for $11 per month. This service offers even more features than Managed Wi-Fi.

What is Ultimate Wi-Fi?

Ultimate Wi-Fi provides all the services of Managed Wi-Fi and adds next-level control of your home network.

For $11 per month, you can control Wi-Fi permissions and settings for People, Devices, and Rooms. Parental controls, block websites, and set usage limits. Multi-layer malware and virus security.

Service issue insurance; receive up to 6 service calls a year without charge.

Is fiber internet 100% of the speed all the time?

100 Mbps, 300 Mbps, and Gigabit are maximum capacities. Speeds may be slower based on users accessing the line at the same time or using WiFi access. Gigabit speeds are “best-effort” and not guaranteed.

What are the benefits to phone service provided by Wave Rural Connect?

Our Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) phone service is over a fiber network; it provides crystal-clear communication with no lag. We offer our phone service at very competitive rates, and discounts are available if you bundle with other Wave Rural Connect services. Unlike many other phone providers, we will not charge any fees that aren’t mandated.

Can I fax on a fiber phone line?

Yes. VOIP functions the same as a standard voice line and will not inhibit the use of facsimile machines. The supplied Optical Network Terminal (ONT) has 2 phone ports, so you won’t have to switch between your phone and fax.

Who can get WAVE Rural Connect?

All Arkansas Valley Electric Cooperative members will be eligible to receive service. You can review our phase map. Any zone that is in color is live, and gray areas are future Phases and Zones.

We do offer services outside AVECC membership based on Federal and state funding methods. We release these on an ad-hoc basis as funding is released, so we can build out the areas. Expressions of interest on our signup site help us plan for any possible expansion outside planned and funded areas—even if your area is not on the official list, show your interest today.

How does wave decide on the construction schedule?

The construction schedule is based on:

  • Density
  • Total cost
  • Cost per home or business passed
  • Number of potential subscribers in the area
  • Cooperative communication needs
  • AVECC and Wave Rural Connect office locations
  • Revenue projections
  • Federal or state funding options

Are there annual contracts?

For most residential and business internet there is no contract.

For more complicated installations or custom business needs, there may be a required contract term of 12 months or more, commencing on the date Service is made available. Thereafter, the term shall automatically renew on a month-to-month basis at WAVE’s then-current monthly pricing and fees.

Are there fees if I cancel service?

Our standard residential and business services have no contract and those have no cancellation fee.  Subscribers may cancel Service at any time.

If a Subscriber has a special build or custom service there is usually a contract for these services. Canceling Service at any time during the contract period usually incurs an early cancellation fee, equal to the remainder of the term multiplied by the agreed monthly service fee.

Can I change services while under contract?

For our standard residential and business services you may add or change your service tiers. Changes within the same service tier will incur no charges and can be applied in the same day, most of the time.

If you have a customized build or service plan a new contract may be required if additional installation or construction at the service location is required for any upgrades of service.

How long may I hold my services?

Currently, Seasonal Hold does not have a limit. Responsibility for removing your services from a hold status is on the customer. You must call in to remove the Seasonal Hold and restore services.

Are there any restrictions to Seasonal Hold?

Yes. Currently, delinquent or adjusted accounts are not eligible for Seasonal Hold without an agreement from Wave Rural Connect, LLC. Upon reactivation, services transition from suspended to active status on the date requested, and monthly recurring charges are applicable from that date.

How much speed do I need?

How much speed do I needThe first thing to understand about Internet speeds is that certain minimum speeds are needed to enjoy different types of online activities. Video streaming is the best example of this. The better the video quality, the faster your Internet speed needs to be to enjoy it.

Streaming companies typically publish minimum speeds for the different levels of video quality: standard definition (SD), high definition (HD), and ultra-high-definition (4K). And these ratios are based on ONE stream at a time, with no other internet activity going on at the same time. Typically at least a 10 Mbps connection is needed to avoid frequent buffering or delivery failure.

With base speeds set for 1 stream at a time, 3 family members streaming in HD would require a 30 Mbps signal — minimum. Remember, these are the minimum speeds needed for video services to work at a basic level. Certain streaming services will match the video quality to your speed to reduce buffering and pausing. Even when you think you are getting HD, you probably aren’t at speeds below broadband.

Before you call customer or technical support, you need to do 2 things. First, make sure you’ve purchased an Internet package that’s fast enough to meet your needs for internet use and streaming, and when using multiple connected devices at the same time. Second, check to make sure that the device you’re using to connect to the Internet is capable of supporting the speeds provided.

Is your device slowing things down?

The device you’re using to connect to the Internet could be limiting your speed. Does your computer support the latest 802.11ac Wi-Fi standard? Does it even have an Ethernet port? If it does, what is the port’s capacity?

Smartphones and tablets have maximum Wi-Fi speeds that they are capable of supporting. If you connect using a smartphone that’s more than 3 years old, you may not get an accurate picture of the download and upload speeds you’re getting in your home.

There are way too many devices to provide a comprehensive list here, but the first thing you should do is determine which Wi-Fi standard your device supports. If it’s 3 or more years old, it likely supports the 802.11b, 802.11a/g, or 802.11n standard. If it’s a new device, it probably supports the 802.11ac or 802.11ax (also known as ‘Wi-Fi 6’) standard.

Confused?

Look up your device model number on the manufacturer’s website to find the capacities.

Alternately, in Windows 10, you can look under the Start Menu > View Network Connections > Device Name. The name often shows the speed capability of the connection type. If not, a web search can usually tell you.

For Apple OS X, you can look under the Apple Menu > About This Mac > System Report > Network. There you can find details about connection types and their speeds.

Is your router or modem slowing things down?

Old Modem If you signed up for Wave Rural Connect services and picked your own router, the slowdown could be the router itself, especially if your router is 3 or more years old. The Wi-Fi industry is continually updating its technology to provide users with better performance, so new routers simply work better. They’re faster and offer more reliable connections.

WiFi standards have speeds that represent the maximum theoretical speed you can get for the different ratings. These speeds are not typically achievable in real-world conditions, as Wi-Fi signals are affected by obstacles in your home and interference from other devices in your home.

Bottom line: if you’re using an old router or modem, it may not be capable of providing the maximum speed supported by your Internet package. If this is the case, contact Wave Rural Connect Technical Support so we can get you the right Wave router or point you to the best alternative. If you don’t have Wave, call us at (833) 4WAVERC or go to our Home Page to find out more.

Contact our fast, friendly, and helpful Member Support or Technical Support teams if you have questions about your speed.
